Donate Blood, Save Lives: Alvi

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi said World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14 every year served to raise awareness of in need make voluntary donations and thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their savings donations.

In his message on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, the President said: “This year the day is celebrated around the theme of the act of donating blood. of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.”

“Blood donation indeed Act of solidarity as needed to save lives of women with complications during pregnancy and childbirth, children with severe anemia, often resulting from malaria or malnutrition, accident victims, surgical and oncological patients.

“On this day, we celebrate the enormous contribution of blood donors around world and appreciate those who donated blood in in past and I pledge to continue in the same spirit in in future,” he added.

He said regular sufficient blood donation of healthy people it was necessary that ensure this blood will always be available when and where it is needed.

“A healthy person can donate blood several times. times of year without any adverse effect on his health with minimum spacing of 12 weeks between two donations, while platelet donors can be donors more often up up to 24 times per year”.

The President said that according to the World Health Organization since 2016, over 2.5 billion people all over the world were in need of blood and blood products.

“That’s why we need keep looking new blood donors and encourage those who are already blood donation for more often.”

Alvi said: “In Pakistan, awareness campaign even more important how rate of blood donation in Pakistan is very low compared to the rest of in world. In Pakistan over 90 percent of total blood is transfused from friends and relatives of patients, and the remaining 10 percent donated by professional donors.

“Therefore there is need to raise awareness on all platforms of ordinary and social media about voluntary blood donation to dispel misconceptions about blood donation and for creating necessary infrastructure for donation, screening of donated blood and its preservation on internationally recognized standards and norms”.

He called on the members of in public donate blood as often as possible like an act of godliness to save lives and give relief and happiness to the recipients and their family members.
