Deck Nine wants to stay 'close to core Life is Strange franchise'

Deck Nine wants to stay “close to the core” of the Life is Strange franchise.
That’s what senior narrative designer says from Life is Strange: True Colors in an interview with Gamer.nl.
“We’re super honored to be sort of in charge of the franchise,” Littleton replies when asked if Dontnod’s adventure games can coexist with Deck Nine’s.

“We loved Life is Strange as fans before we became Life is Strange developers. That’s why we’re really excited about certain things – full performance is a really important one when you’re talking about evolving the series and what kind of stories we can tell.

And with aspects such as open world and the elimination of episodes, we want to keep moving the franchise forward and making sure it catches on with modern players, while games about the generally evolve. But it’s also still important for us to stay close to the core of the franchise, and the things that attracted us in the first place. In any case, we were super excited when Tell Me Why came out, and we wish the people at Dontnod the best.”

A paid . will be published this week expansion for Life is Strange: True Colors, called Wavelengths. Before that, actress Katy Benz returns as the character Steph, who works in a music store a year before the events of the main game. Due to the pandemic, recording for the expansion was done partly in the studio and partly at home.“I went to the studio at Deck Nine, and I I also did things at home,” explains Benz. “We did all the video and motion capture in the studio, and when we had everything for that, I went back to my apartment to do the rest of the voiceover work.”

Littleton also clarifies that players must complete Life is Strange: True Colors before they can start the expansion and that the length is approximately comparable to a chapter from the main game. In addition, players can include some new gameplay elements, including swiping on a dating app and dungeons & dragons, similar to Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

Wavelengths appears on September 30 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and PC.
