The Buffalo, New York, area was shaken early on Monday by an earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m. with a depth of about 1.9 miles. Its epicenter was located slightly more than a mile northeast of West Seneca.
The Buffalo local National Weather Service office said there were no early reports of damage or casualties.
The earthquake occurred several weeks after the region was devastated by a winter storm that claimed the lives of 39 people in Erie County and buried the city of Buffalo under approximately 52 inches of snow. Last week, the county issued a warning designated as “code blue.” As dangerously low temperatures gripped the northeast, it offered three warming shelters for those in need.
On Monday, reports came in from people throughout the region, even those in Ontario, Canada, who felt the rumbling. These claims were received by the CNN affiliate WKBW.
