Autotalks, an Israeli auto-chip maker, to be acquired by Qualcomm

Qualcomm has announced its acquisition of Autotalks, a chip-making company based in Israel that produces chips for use in accident prevention systems in vehicles. The purchase will allow Qualcomm to expand its range of automotive-related products and services. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The technology developed by Autotalks will be integrated into Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis, which is used in their assisted and autonomous driving product. It was reported in September last year that Qualcomm’s potential future orders in its automotive business had increased by over $10bn to $30bn, with more car manufacturers introducing driver assistance systems. The company’s automotive business revenue rose by 20% to $447m in Q2 2017. Autotalks has been developing communication technology for use in both manned and driverless vehicles with the aim of improving road safety.
