At least 20 killed in bus collision with oil tanker on M-5

LAHORE:

At least 20 people were killed and six injured on early Tuesday morning when a passenger bus hit an oil tanker and hit fire on Multan-Sukkur Highway (M-5) near Jalal Pur Pirwala interchange.

The sleeping bus was on this is way to Karachi from Lahore and flew out at 9 pm. on Monday. Around 25 people we on board with 22 passengers went to Karachi and two to Hyderabad.

Multan Deputy Commissioner Tahir Wattu confirmed the incident. on his official Twitter processed, reporting that the passenger bus collided with oil tanker. Multan Commissioner Amir Khattak also confirmed development in tweet and said there was an accident place around 4 am.

According to the 1122 Multan Rescue Service, the bodies and the wounded were taken to Nishter Multan Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, fire was so strong that the flames could be seen for miles.

Traffic is still suspended on motorway for several hours after the crash.

While cause of in crash has not been confirmed, some police officers believe that the bus was speeding, while others claim that driver fell asleep.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed grief over incident and prayed for deceased and their families. “I am saddened by the loss of 20 precious lives in accident. My prayers with families of the victims,” he tweeted.

Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi has also expressed sorrow over loss and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

He instructed the relevant authorities to ensure ” best possible providing medical assistance” to the victims and to cooperate with families of deceased for their identification.
