Data from the UK Office for National Statistics showed today, Wednesday, that consumer price inflation in the country fell to 8.7% in April from 10.1% in March.
In a Reuters poll, economists had expected the annual rate to ease to 8.2% in April, below its 41-year high of 11.1% in October.
The Bank of England this month expected inflation for April at 8.4%. The core consumer price index, which excludes energy, food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, rose to 6.8%.
