Uncomplicated payment is often an important criterion for high customer satisfaction when shopping online. For this reason, it is not surprising that the Sparkasse is now also offering Apple Pay for Girocard in e-commerce.
It is a logical conclusion from the still young collaboration between the two companies. In December 2018 Apple Pay came to Germany, at the end of 2019 Apple Pay was launched at the Sparkasse. The integration of the payment option with the Girocard followed in August 2020. So far, this has only been used for card payments in stationary retail. That changes now, as announced by the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe.
Currently only selected dealers
The Girocard can be used as a means of payment at many different online retailers. Currently, however, not all merchants who accept Apple Pay also accept the Sparkasse’s Girocard. At the start of the function, Flixbus, Mediamarkt, Bolt and Lieferando are among the providers who accept Sparkasse’s Apple Pay payments online. Several transport companies are already part of the portfolio. Other companies like Cyberport and the drugstore chain DM are to follow soon.
To set up Apple Pay, Sparkasse customers only need their Open the wallet app and add the girocard. From this point onwards, Apple Pay can be used on any Apple device. As with payments with a credit card, buyer protection will be included, which will take effect automatically at no additional cost. The necessary security is also guaranteed: In order for a purchase to be made, it must first be authenticated by Face- or Touch-ID.
