Apple to Ship Next Generation iPhone with Powerful Processor
Apple is preparing to ship the next generation of its iPhone smartphone with a processor that far outperforms all competing phones, thanks to a preferential agreement it has signed with Taiwanese electronics chip maker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC).
The agreement allows the US company to get the latest and fastest chips made by the Taiwanese company a year ahead of any of its competitors, according to technology site The Information.
The Only Resource
This means that the next phone, the “iPhone 15” expected to be released next month, could contain a chip more powerful than any phone chips made by competing companies like Samsung, Google or Huawei.
The same could apply to any new personal computer or tablet that Apple might release next year, according to a German news agency.
Although the terms and details of the agreement between Apple and TSMC have not been disclosed, it makes the Taiwanese company Apple’s sole supplier of chips.
In addition, due to Apple’s huge and exclusive pre-orders for the Taiwanese company, it is liable for any defects in the new chips that Apple was the first to use.
Years on the Way to Outstanding Results
The news comes after Apple achieved outstanding product performance for years using the energy-saving M1 processor in 2020, which helped it pull out of cooperation with US chip maker Intel in this core sector.
Apple’s shift from using Intel chips in Macs to using proprietary chips has also allowed Apple to use a common technology foundation in its devices, whether iPhones, iPads or Macs, with better performance for those devices running complex applications.
