Al-Burhan expresses gratitude to Saudi Arabia for mediation, rejects internationalization of their cause

The commander of the Sudanese army, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, said today, Monday: “We refuse to internationalize our cause and do not want to impose external conditions on us,” sending thanks to Saudi Arabia for conducting negotiations aimed at ending hostilities.

He also made it clear in statements to the Egyptian media that no date for a ceasefire was possible at this time, pointing to the futility of negotiations with the Rapid Support Forces if they did not leave the residential areas.

“A peaceful solution is the best way to resolve the current crisis in Sudan,” he added.

In addition, Al-Burhan explained that the Rapid Support Forces are located in hospitals and police stations in the Sudanese capital.

“We are close to ending the presence of the Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum,” he said, noting that the presence of the Rapid Support Forces in state institutions impedes the army’s actions.

But he added: “We fear the war will spread to other Sudanese states.”

Clashes resume

This comes after the resumption of clashes in Khartoum and Omdurman today, Monday, despite the truce, which should continue, due to the continuation of negotiations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in Jeddah.

According to an Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath correspondent, repeated strong explosions were also heard amid the heavy flight of warplanes in the area of the Palace of the Republic.

Heavy weapons were also heard in the north of Omdurman in the direction of the Halfaya bridge, against the backdrop of an intense overflight of combat aircraft over the city and a powerful launch of anti-aircraft missiles.

Establish a permanent truce

These clashes come at a time when international and regional mediators are still seeking to push both sides into negotiations to establish a permanent truce.

While some observers have questioned the possibility of the two sides agreeing to a quick political solution or even a permanent truce before the battle is resolved on the ground, especially in light of each sticking to their respective positions.

did not bear fruit

It is noteworthy that these negotiations followed a number of Arab and African regional initiatives, especially from the eastern countries of the continent through the IGAD organization, but they did not bring results.

While the fighting, which has been going on for 22 days, has resulted in 700 dead and 5,000 wounded, according to the Center for Armed Conflict and Their Facts (ACLED), in addition to the displacement of 335,000 people and 115,000 people seeking asylum to neighboring countries , amid United Nations warnings of the possibility of suffering, 19 million people will suffer from hunger and malnutrition in the coming months.
