The Pakistan military has issued a stern warning that any attempt to replicate the civil unrest of May 9 will be met with “decisive force” and the strict application of the law. The ultimatum comes as the military leadership signaled its intent to maintain internal stability ahead of a scheduled political march toward Islamabad on October 4, 2026.
The statement, emphasizing a policy of “rule of law without discrimination,” marks a hardening of the military’s domestic stance under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir. Following the passage of the Defence Forces of Pakistan Act in August 2026, Munir holds the consolidated roles of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), a restructuring that centralized military command and legal authority.

Internal Security and the October 4 March
The military’s warning appears directly aimed at preempting potential disruptions during the upcoming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest. The party has scheduled a major march for October 4, 2026, raising concerns within the security establishment about a possible recurrence of the widespread riots seen in 2023. Military officials have stressed that any challenge to the writ of the state will be handled with immediate force, framing the measure as a necessary step to protect national integrity.
Trilateral Defense and Regional Commitments
In addition to domestic security concerns, the military leadership has recently reaffirmed its commitment to significant new international defense obligations. The military welcomed the progress of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, a trilateral mutual defense pact signed between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye on August 7, 2026.
The agreement establishes a framework for strategic cooperation where the security of one member is treated as a priority for all signatories. In line with this commitment, the military expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia following recent Houthi attacks and affirmed its absolute commitment to the sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain. The military leadership indicated that maintaining domestic order is essential to fulfilling these expanding regional defense roles and ensuring the country remains a reliable partner in the newly solidified trilateral alliance.
