Pakistani police said Islamist militants stormed an oil and gas production facility in the country’s northwest on Tuesday, killing four police officers and two bodyguards.
Police officer Irrfan Khan told Reuters that the attack by up to 50 militants took place at a MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas facility in Hangu district, close to the border with Afghanistan.
He added that the attack took place late on Monday evening and continued for several hours until early Tuesday morning.
Several militant groups, including the Pakistani Taliban, have been active in the remote mountains of northwestern Pakistan for many years. These groups launched attacks on security forces and infrastructure in their war against the state.
