Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger compared Russian President Vladimir Putin to the heroes of novels by Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
Kissinger told The Economist, “Putin should be seen as the hero of Dostoevsky’s novels … with all the contradictions and doubts about his people.”
In his statement, Kissinger spoke of “the dual relationship between Russia and Europe.”
Kissinger believed that Russia felt threatened by Europe, and on the other hand, she had cultural relations with Europe.
He added that Russia wants to integrate with European culture, but at the same time considers itself a “third Rome”, in his opinion.
