A well-known independent game creator reveals that an astounding 10 million additional gamers joined very soon after the game’s PlayStation Plus release.

According to the game developers, an astounding 10 million new players joined “very, very soon” after Deep Rock Galactic’s PlayStation Plus release. As of Sony’s most recent accounting, PlayStation Plus was known to have more than 45 million subscribers. At the same time, it is rarely disclosed in public how that number translates into new gamers for game releases. Developer Ghost Ship Games had a great year with Deep Rock Galactic and heartily credited PlayStation Plus for a large portion of that accomplishment.
Deep Rock Galactic’s PlayStation Plus availability has long since ended. Therefore, PlayStation Plus members can easily see if they missed one of the titles from the previous month. The free co-op mining first-person shooter was available on PlayStation Plus in January 2022. Thus it has yet to be unlocked since then. Said Ghost Ship Games is returning to that launch as part of its financial analysis and 2022 year-end summary.
Deep Rock Galactic’s PlayStation Plus release was a huge success, according to Ghost Ship Games CEO Soren Lundgaard, who is speaking on an Embracer Group earnings call. In particular, Lundgaard claims that after the game’s release, 10 million PlayStation Plus members downloaded it and began playing it “very, very fast.” The Deep Rock Galactic IP was “driven the Deep Rock Galactic IP even further into closing into the mainstream” by this PlayStation Plus launch, which outperformed Deep Rock Galactic’s 1.0 debut, according to Lundgaard.

By timing the PlayStation Plus rollout to coincide with the introduction of Deep Rock Galactic’s seasonal content, Ghost Ship Games successfully tapped into this influx of new players. Deep Rock Galactic’s first season premiered in November 2021, and two months later, PlayStation Plus went live. As a result, new Deep Rock Galactic players could take advantage of the game’s enhanced gameplay and buy some of its most recent downloadable content (DLC).
Sadly, Ghost Ship Games required more specific information on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 user bases. Nonetheless, it did provide details about Deep Rock Galactic’s Steam release. In 2022, 113,700 people played daily, up from 75,400 in 2021. There is no PlayStation and PC crossplay for Deep Rock Galactic. Even said, the inflow of new players increased enthusiasm for the title and growth on PC.
There is still much to look forward to for Deep Rock Galactic players. Beginning on March 2, Ghost Ship Games will conduct a Year 5 Anniversary event allowing players to access the “original version” of the game from 2018. In the upcoming months, more cosmetic DLC and content are anticipated. Ghost Ship Games will take full advantage of this wave of PlayStation Plus success.
Playable right now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S is Deep Rock Galactic.
