MOMAND: federal minister for Water Resources Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah on Thursday said construction of new dams are vital for increasing agricultural productivity, fulfilling people’s water requirements and achieving self-sufficiency in food.
talking to media man after visiting different sections of the Mohmand Dam under construction at a cost of Rs 309.6 billion, minister said it in many ways project very important for countries economy and agricultural water needs, in addition to providing of clean drinking water in Peshawar and surrounding areas.
He said 20 percent work on The Mohmand Dam has been completed and the rest work will be completed by 2026. “Pakistan is an agricultural country, and construction of new dams required stimulate agricultural production and ensure food security,” he said.
He said big dams have a direct impact on in economy what if four new dams built then not only our economic and agricultural growth improve, but help in payment out of country’s debts.
With completion of Mohmand dam, he said, lack of water problem of Let’s talk about Peshawar. Over 300 million gallons of water per day will be supplied to Peshawar from Mohmand Dam for drinking purposes with Grants worth Rs 957 million.
