Snapchat has long made a name for itself as a popular instant messenger. The special thing about it: pictures and videos that are sent to or received from contacts are only available for a few seconds and are deleted immediately after viewing. These so-called “snaps” can also be processed with a wide variety of, sometimes strange, filters.
Whoever has priority Younger target group no longer feels that they belong to Snapchats, has the option of deleting or deactivating their account at any time. However, it is not enough to simply delete the app from the smartphone. The personal data will still be retained on the Snapchat servers. Similar to Facebook or Instagram, the function for deleting the account is rather hidden, since no provider likes to lose users. We’ll show you how your account is history with just a few clicks.
Delete Snapchat account via browser
- Open the Snapchat account portal in your browser.
- Log in there with your Snapchat account.
- Click in the next window on “Delete my account”.
- Confirm the deletion of your account by entering your login data again.
Account remains deactivated for the time being
You will then receive an email confirming that your account has been successfully deactivated and will be permanently deleted after 30 days. Within these 30 days you have the option to reactivate your Snapchat account at any time and restore all data. All you have to do is log in to Messenger with your login details.
Delete Snapchat account via the app
The app also provides a way, albeit a little more laborious, that you can use to delete or deactivate your Snapchat account. Whether you use an Android or an iOS device is not relevant here.
- Open your profile in the Snapchat app by tapping your profile picture in the top left.
- Tap on the gear symbol at the top right to get to the settings.
- Scrolls to the Support menu item and click on “I need help”.
- Open here “My Account” and “Security” and then “Account details”.
Now tap on “Delete my account”.
Now you will find all the important information about deletion or deactivation your Snapchat account and the link to the account portal are displayed. There you carry out the steps already mentioned above.
Can I keep my saved snaps if I delete the account?
Since 2016, Snapchat has offered snaps and stories that you created yourself in an app-internal archive called ” Memories ”. Such a function does not exist for third-party snaps. So if you decide to delete your Snapchat account, but you don’t want to lose your saved photos and videos, you can save them in the internal photo gallery of your smartphone. This is how it works:
- Open your profile in the Snapchat app by tapping your profile picture in the top left.
- Tap on the gear symbol at the top right to access the settings to get.
- Click on “Memories”.
- Now open the “Save in” option under “Save”.
- Now you can choose between “Memories”, “Memories and recordings” or “Only in recordings”.
