Tensor: Will Google get the Android updates under control with its own chips?

With the Tensor SoC, Google has announced its first own smartphone processor and is thus following Apple’s path. This step could have greater effects than “just” new high-end smartphones.

With the Pixel 6 and the Whitechapel Tensor SoC from their own company, Google is making itself independent of its previous one Pixel chip supplier Qualcomm and is pursuing a similar vertical integration strategy as Apple. At the moment it is not yet completely clear how large Google’s own share of the SoC (System on a Chip) is, since the manufacturer has only given the first details so far, but the direction is clear: more control over hardware and software development in order to to develop better products.
