The pandemic did not break the high salaries of IT professionals either

Outstanding salaries can still be expected in IT jobs. Which of these are the most popular or the most common, and exactly what an outstanding salary means, is clear from the Bluebird IT market overview.

As technology evolves, more and more positions open up – some its name is also difficult to decipher at first, especially for those who do not work in the profession. What are the most common positions in the IT sector today, what do they mean and what are their salaries

Project Manager and Scrum Master

For an IT project, a unique IT product, service or product to be delivered. In addition to consulting with the client, the project manager monitors the project plan and leads the project team, whose motivation is also one of his tasks. The project manager sets deadlines and tasks, plans the budget, monitors the project, and ensures customer satisfaction. A novice project manager can take home between 500,000 and 750,000 forints, and at the senior level up to 1,500,000 forints. It is also worth mentioning the role of the Scrum master. This job is significantly different from the duties and responsibilities of a traditional project manager. The self-organizing development team does not need management, the tasks do not need to be assigned as the team selects them. It is responsible for working with the team on the mechanisms defined by the Scrum framework. A Scrum master (regardless of level) can be paid from HUF 600,000 to up to HUF 1,500,000

Business Analyst and System Organizer

The basic task of a business analyst ensure that the system is implemented according to customer requirements. To do this, you need to know the specific processes, identify the users of the system, and determine what data the application you want to develop should handle and how. A system administrator is a person who, although not necessarily familiar with the business environment of the system to be implemented, has technical knowledge – such as data model design, SQL. Salaries can vary depending on the domain, ie business area, on average a junior analyst can earn between 500,000 and 750,000 forints, but a Business analyst (system administrator) can expect a salary of up to 650,000 forints at the beginner level and up to 1,200,000 forints at the senior level.

Are software developers the most?

The role of software developer may vary from company to company. In many cases, the developer performs almost exclusively development tasks, in other organizations he may have design tasks and even project manager tasks. Software developers are mostly distinguished by the applied technology and programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, Angular, etc.), but we can also talk about backend and frontend, as well as full stack developers. The latter division is architecture-based, meaning it indicates which layer of the application the software developer develops (user interface, server-side development, or both).

The frontend today mostly covers Javascript developers. They are the ones who create the code running in the browser. Their work is visible directly as it appears in the user interface. The task of the server-side developer, ie the backend developer, is to develop multi-layered applications on the server side and to perform database operations. Backend developers provide the “invisible” background for the software. The full stack developer is the frontend and backend in one person. He is expected to know and understand the entire technology stack. Software developers can even include a mobile developer who builds applications running on mobile phones. The average salary of these jobs ranges from HUF 450,000 to HUF 850,000 at the junior level, while the salaries of the highest leading employees can exceed one and a half million forints.

“There are no exact figures on how many software developers fill the If we look at the domestic LinkedIn data, it seems that this is the most common IT job with about 100,000 professionals, and this number is just what we find on this social platform, but our experience also shows that it is the most common open position ” – says Balázs Réfi, CEO of Bluebird

Less obvious to the layman is the DevOps engineer, who from design through the development process to manufacturing is present in the project until the excavation grant. DevOps is all about enabling faster and better quality software products with field integration, more efficient collaboration, and shorter development phases

Many testers and operators

Although a software developer is involved in testing (eg unit tests), the software tester is responsible for the overall quality control of the developed application. Testing takes place before the application or system is armed and is intended to be delivered without error. It is important that the tester not only has a general picture and knowledge of the system, but also a thorough knowledge to be able to test the context of the system. The initial salary of the testers at the junior level can start from HUF 450,000 to HUF 650,000, and in the leading position they can expect an allowance of up to HUF 750,000 to HUF 1,200,000.

The operator usually works on the basis of operating documentation requirements for the operation of the service and also tasks related to the operation. There are also many types of operator, we distinguish between database operator, system operator and network operator engineer. An initial starter can earn from HUF 450,000 to HUF 750,000, and in a lead position an operator can receive up to HUF 1,500,000.

Demand for IT professionals has also jumped significantly in Hungary

The COVID epidemic also affected the IT industry. The recruitment of IT professionals came to a halt in the first half of 2020. Many businesses waited and froze their headcount. Since then, however, from the second half of 2020, the demand for IT has started to grow very significantly. Today, it can be said that most companies have a significant problem finding and hiring the right IT professionals.

“We receive a request for quotation about every 2-3 days. In most cases, the shortage of IT professionals is critical, so they contact us. I think that the current shortage of IT professionals is not a temporary phenomenon, COVID has highlighted that digitalisation cannot be circumvented, and it has also highlighted that there are no longer any borders between countries within IT. “IT professionals perform their tasks from home or physically from a country other than the customer’s headquarters. I think it’s worth making friends with this type of remote work in the long run, of course with a project-based approach,” added Balázs Réfi, CEO of Bluebird.

Not all training is the key in post-graduate learning

If someone decides to take a job in the IT sector, there are many higher education opportunities however, in most of these they provide only theoretical knowledge and foundations. Most IT professionals learn the special skills that the workplace requires in practice, on a project, in a live workplace. This includes learning about specific frameworks, new technologies, and possibly architectures
