Initial Report: 6.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Panama
Location and Impact
An initial report released by the Institute of Geosciences in Panama late Monday evening said the 6.2 magnitude quake struck 61km off the island of El Borbinir in the Caribbean.
The earthquake was briefly felt in the capital of Panama.
The 10 km deep epicenter was originally located at 9.94 degrees north latitude and 78.35 degrees west longitude.
Earthquake in Bali Sea, Indonesia
Prior to this, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that on Monday, an earthquake of magnitude 7 occurred in the Bali Sea region of Indonesia.
The center added that the earthquake occurred 203 km north of Mataram in Indonesia, at a depth of 516 km from the earth’s surface.
The US Geological Survey estimated the magnitude of the quake at 7.1.
