The US-based cryptocurrency exchange expands to Canada
Introduction
The US-based cryptocurrency exchange is now officially available for Canadian citizens.
Integration of Interac e-Transfers
Coinbase, the only platform previously available in the United States, has announced its launch in Canada on August 14th. The company has integrated Interac e-Transfers in cooperation with Peoples Trust Company, allowing all Canadian users of Coinbase to take advantage of Interac wire transfers for simplified transactions. Recent data indicates that this new feature has drawn significant attention, with a large portion of deposits on the platform being made via Interac e-Transfers.
Coinbase One Membership
Furthermore, the company has introduced “Coinbase One” membership for its Canadian customers. New registrants are provided with a 30-day introductory trial to explore the offers and benefits of this membership.
Canada’s Perspective on Digital Currencies
Coinbase’s decision to venture into Canada can be seen in the context of the country’s developed perspective on digital currencies. Nana Murugesan, Vice President of International and Business Development at Coinbase, mentioned Canada’s tech-forward population and continuous regulatory developments as salient factors. According to Murugesan, Canada is in a good position to be a global leader in the crypto economy due to high levels of crypto awareness, a passionate local tech ecosystem, and progress towards a strong regulatory framework.
Coinbase’s Initiatives in Canada
Earlier this year, Coinbase signed the Pre-Registration Undertaking with Canadian regulators. The company also appointed Lucas Matheson as Country Director for Canada and established a tech center in the country, making it an essential site for Coinbase outside of the United States.
