Amazon’s Online Advertising Business Surges with $10.68 Billion in Q2 Sales

Amazon’s Online Advertising Business Sees Growth Amidst Market Recovery

Amazon’s online advertising business is thriving amidst the improving digital ad market.

The e-commerce giant’s ad business generated $10.68 billion in sales in the second quarter, experiencing a 22% increase compared to the same period last year, as reported in their latest financial results. Amazon’s overall sales also grew by 11% year-over-year, reaching $134.4 billion in Q2.

According to analysts, Amazon’s advertising business was projected to generate $10.4 billion in sales for the second quarter.

Insider Intelligence reveals that Amazon’s online advertising business accounts for approximately 7.3% of the global digital ad market, making it a lucrative venture for the company. However, Alphabet and Meta remain the leading digital advertising companies with market shares of 28.8% and 20.5% respectively.

While Amazon’s advertising business has been growing, Meta’s core digital ad business has been declining. This shift is due, in part, to the impact of Apple’s iOS privacy update on Meta’s online ad platform. As a result, some companies, particularly retailers, have redirected their ad budgets from Facebook and Instagram to Amazon’s platform, expecting better sales results.

However, Meta’s online advertising business may be recovering as the digital ad market shows signs of improvement.

Meta recently reported an 11% year-over-year revenue growth in the second quarter, amounting to $32 billion. This marks the second consecutive quarter of sales growth following three quarters of decline. Investors are becoming more optimistic about Meta’s core business as the company makes efforts to enhance its online advertising platform in response to Apple’s iOS update.

Alphabet also experienced a 7% year-over-year sales growth in Q2, reaching $74.6 billion. Google’s advertising revenue rose by 3.3% year-over-year to $58.14 billion, while sales in the YouTube advertising unit increased by 4.5% year-over-year to $7.7 billion.

In contrast, Pinterest reported a 6% year-over-year sales increase in Q2, reaching $708 million, while Snap’s revenue declined by 4% year-over-year to $1.11 billion, marking their second consecutive period of declining revenue.
