These declines were more significant than the broader tech market.

AMD stated that it expects $5.7 billion in sales for the third quarter, falling short of analysts’ expectations of $5.81 billion. The company attributed the decline in second-quarter revenue to a weaker PC market, which caused a 54% drop in its client segment. Additionally, sales in the data center business fell 11% due to soft enterprise demand.

Nasdaq’s Drop and AMD’s Growth Expectations

The Nasdaq experienced a 2.1% drop on Wednesday, marking its second-worst day of the year. Despite this, AMD’s CEO Lisa Su expressed optimism about the company’s future growth. She stated that AMD is emerging from a volatile cycle for PCs and expects growth in the second half of the year. Analysts at Jefferies reiterated their buy rating on the stock and pointed to a potential recovery in the PC market.

AMD is one of the few companies producing high-end graphics processing units (GPUs) crucial for artificial intelligence (AI). The company is closely collaborating with partners like Microsoft to leverage AI and enhance the productivity of computers. AMD recently announced a new chip designed for building and running AI models, which will be available for sampling and production ramp-up in the fourth quarter.
