A Historic Friendship

Saudi Arabia and France share a historic friendship, which was further strengthened by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, through mutual visits between the leaders of the two countries, as a result of which relations were established in various political, economic and cultural fields.

In 2018, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia visited France, where 19 protocols on agreements between French and Saudi companies were signed. In December 2021, Prince Mohammed bin Salman received the President of France, and during Macron’s visit, both sides stressed the importance of stepping up joint action.

Deep-rooted Relations

And between Saudi Arabia and France, friendship relations go deep into history, since before unification, France had a consulate in the Kingdom, and relations between the two countries are not limited to a sphere or direction, as they go beyond politics, economics, culture and defense.

The visits of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman further strengthened and strengthened relations and in this context, his visit to France in 2018 led to the involvement of France in the programs and projects carried out under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 program, as well as in the area of existing investments, partnership and diversification of the economic base.

Strengthening Relations

On the sidelines of the 2018 visit, 19 protocols of agreements totaling more than $18 billion were signed between French and Saudi companies, including industries such as petrochemicals, water treatment, tourism and culture, healthcare and agriculture.

In December 2021, Prince Mohammed bin Salman received French President Emmanuel Macron, an appointment that opened up a formal session of talks to strengthen relations.

On the sidelines of the visit, the two countries signed a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding in the fields of culture, tourism, digital technologies, space and industry.

Continuing the Dialogue

In 2022, Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited France, during which, last July, he discussed various economic and political issues with the President of France, the most important of which are the stability of global energy markets, support for Lebanese sovereignty, the importance of achieving a political solution to the crisis in Syria, and international efforts to prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons.

France considers the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a close ally that plays an important role in maintaining regional peace, security and stability in the region, and when regional and international problems escalate, Riyadh plays a key role for Paris.
