German star Toni Kroos, the Real Madrid midfielder, has responded to comments by former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney that have sparked controversy on social media.
Earlier, Wayne Rooney said in a statement he made to the British newspaper The Times that: “Manchester City will not only beat their rival Real Madrid, but crush them.”
The former Red Devils striker added: “Striker Erling Haaland will make them nervous. He can mercilessly take revenge on Real Madrid.
Toni Kroos reacted at a press conference on the eve of Real Madrid and Manchester City’s Champions League game to the claims of the former Manchester United legend by saying: “Like last year, hardly anyone expected us to come out of semi-finals and win the Champions League, but we did it, Rooney is a man I love very much.”
And Kroos continued: “Some people said the same thing a year ago. It doesn’t affect us or motivate us anymore. It can’t be more motivating than the team.”
Tonight, Tuesday, Real Madrid will host Manchester City in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
