Putting out a blaze at a Shell refinery in Texas

Washington, May 8 – Firefighters in the town of Deer Park, near Houston, Texas, have been putting out a fire at a British Shell refinery for a third day, the company said, and have begun directing waste water from the fire into the shipping channel.
They also note that the company does air quality monitoring, which “has not yet detected any dangerous levels of chemicals,” but that locals could notice “black smoke” from the refinery.
Earlier, the official representative of the industry giant, Curtis Smith, told the News Agency that Shell will investigate the causes of the fire that broke out on Friday afternoon at an oil refinery near Houston. It was reported that the fire broke out on Friday afternoon at an institution in the town of Deer Park. A Shell spokesman said no casualties had been reported but a small number of contract workers had been sent “as a precaution” to undergo medical examinations.
Meanwhile, the ABC branch, citing local authorities, reported that at least five people were hospitalized as a result of a fire at the Shell plant. The mayor of Deer Park told the TV station that carbon leakage was the root cause of the fire.
