An electric car powers this Christmas tree

Announcement

At the mention of electric vehicles, many immediately begin to mention the name Tesla, although the Nissan Leaf has no less merit in popularizing the electric drive. True, the first Tesla Roadster was released in 2008, but it was a small series sports car, for the entry-level model of which you had to pay $ 80,000, that is, more than thirty million forints.

Compared to this, the first generation Nissan Leaf, released in 2011, cost a third less, which is not surprising, because it was conceived as a production model. In 2018, its second generation, which is still considered one of the most reliable electric vehicles, was released, while the Tesla roadster, one of which is now flying into space, produced 2,500 units, and the second generation could arrive next year in the most early, though Tesla never announced it. You can tell, after all, the Cybertruck has only been promised for years.

However, in February of this year, Nissan already found owners for almost 600,000 Leaf vehicles, which in 2019 were still the world’s best-selling electric car, surpassed only by the Tesla Model 3 in 2020.

The Japanese manufacturer built its plant in Sunderland, UK in 1984 to serve the European market, but has recently undergone a major expansion to keep the plant able to meet demand. The result of this is now being celebrated as the quarter-millionth Nissan Leaf assembled at the Sunderland plant was completed by December.

The production of the quarter-millionth Nissan Leaf is an extremely important milestone that shows how much experience we have gained in the production of electric vehicles at our plant over the past decade.

Alan Johnson, vice president of production at Nissan Sunderland, praised the work of the factory workers.

The milestone marks the 250,000th Nissan Leaf being used to drive the plant’s Christmas decorations, InsideEVs reports. The Nissan Leaf implements the so-called V2X (Vehicle-To-Everything-Everything-Everything-Everything-Everything-Everything-Everything-Everything-Everything-Everything-Everything) technology, originally marketed by Nissan under the name V2G, i.e. ” network car. This means that batteries can not only absorb energy, but also feed into the grid or control consumers. The same is true here: the batteries of an electric car feed an almost ten-meter Christmas tree and glowing reindeer standing around it. In addition to the V2X-MAS TREE, giant backlit numbers also pay homage to the quarter-million leaf.

At the plant in Sunderland, in addition to a purely electric model, the Qashqai and Juke models are produced with a hybrid drive, i.e. the entire range is already being produced in the UK in the name of electrification. The plant is also the center of the EV36ZERO ecosystem, which was announced last year and which allows the production of electric vehicles.
