New biometric system for issuance of SIM cards launched

telecom industry introduced the Multi-Fingerprint Biometric Verification System (MBVS) enhanced version of biometric verification system to prevent the sale of fake SIM card cards.

The ceremony was held at the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) headquarters. for signing of contract between NADRA and cellular mobile operators (CMO) after a smooth transition to new BVS.

The Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) will be used telecom companies to verify the identity of users before issuing new SIM.

According to information provided by Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), BVS devices available in sales channels have been updated to match requirements of in new system through NADRA and OKU.

Control for choice of fingers for the objectives of the review were moved from the seller’s representative to system who asks for two different fingerprints randomly.

Implementation of new system make it illegal use of forgery of fingerprints is not possible.

Head of the parent committee, praising the unremitting efforts of Directors of Marketing and NADRA, stated new system MBVS will be a catalyst in sales control of SIM cards are issued illegally.
