Grafton: In Hungary, the IT sector provides excellent opportunities for earning

In Hungary, the IT sector provides outstanding earning opportunities, where a monthly gross salary of HUF 1.5-2 million is not uncommon for some positions, but a gross salary of around HUF 1 million is also available in finance and SSC (shared service). centers). The labor market service provider prepared this year’s study using benefit packages for more than ten thousand employees.

Most companies in the IT sector this year increased wages by 5-15 percent in the first half. Thanks to this, gross salaries of more than 1 million forints have already appeared for those who have 1-3 years of work experience. For IT professionals who have worked in the same company for more than 3 years, it is no longer uncommon for a salary of 1.5 million forints, and for those with at least 6 years of work experience (elderly people) – 2 million forints.

In the announcement, Tamas Farkas, business manager at Grafton, noted that due to the digitalization caused by the coronavirus epidemic, the demand for IT professionals has increased even more, which has also affected their wages. The analysis also touched upon the fact that Western European companies are outsourcing more and more processes to Central and Eastern Europe, where Hungary is in a favorable position as overall wage costs are lower than in competitor countries.

Every industry is desperately vying for people with general knowledge of finance and accounting. A quarter of employees in the financial sector received a pay increase of 10 to 20 percent, and one in ten workers received a pay increase of more than 20 percent. As a result, the starting salary of accountants is about HUF 400,000, while chief accountants earn between HUF 900,000 and 1.3 million. In the manufacturing industry, an experienced CNC operator can earn up to HUF 700,000 gross and a PLC programmer HUF 950,000 gross.

Tamas Farkas indicated in the announcement that it is difficult to find qualified workers for these positions, which is why their wages are growing at such a pace.

The next few months may be turbulent in the labor market. The increase in utility bills shocks employees. Where there is no increase in wages in line with inflation next January, employee turnover may increase and workers may look for new jobs.
