British businessman charged with conspiracy to violate US sanctions government on Russian oligarch.
US Department of Justice (Department of Justice) said Graham Bonham Carter was arrested on Tuesday after the accusation of funding property purchased by Oleg Deripaska and exporting his artwork abroad, which Bonham-Carter denies.
The Department of Justice stated that the United States government will seek the extradition of Bonham Carter. Deripaska initially fell under US sanctions for “Acted or intended to act on on behalf of of, directly or indirectly, senior official of in government of Russian Federation, and for operating in energy sector of Russia Federation economy”.
Bonham Carter, cousin of actress Helena Bonham Carter accused of attraction in more over $1 million (£900,000) of illegal operations for financing real real estate in United States for the blessing of Deripaska, in investigation carried out with “substantial assistance” from the UK’s National Crime Agency.
It is alleged that the businessman received instructions from Deripaska. set up a company called GBCM Limited, for management of his property, including two in New York and one in Washington.
The Department of Justice said money was sent from a GBCM Limited account in Russia will pay for staff salaries and property taxes and to maintain the property of the oligarch.
Bonham Carter charged with three counts of conspiracy to violate and evade US sanctions in violation of International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), one count of IEEPA violation and one count of wire fraud.
Each charge carries maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Deripaska was one of seven oligarchs hit with UK sanctions on March 10, when he described him as “closely related” with both are Russian government and its leader, as well as “participated in destabilizing and threatening” to Ukraine.

Bonham Carter had his bank accounts are frozen for six months in Westminster Magistrates’ Court in March after it was alleged that they contained money associated with Deripaska.
Deripaska founded the Rusal aluminum company and is considered an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. His wealth is estimated at more than £2 billion.
