ISLAMABAD:
UN Secretary General António Guterres arrived. in Pakistan on Friday for two-day visit of solidarity in a catastrophic situation caused floods in country.
He was received by the minister of State for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar at Islamabad International Airport.
During his visit, Guterres will visit flood-affected areas in country.
“I arrived in Pakistan, to express our deepest solidarity with Pakistani people after the devastating flood here, said secretary-general in tweet.
“I am addressing for massive support from international community how Pakistan will respond to this climate catastrophe,” he said. added.

A Foreign Ministry statement released a day earlier said that during Guterres’ visit “there will be meetings with Pakistani leadership and senior officials to exchange views on in national as well as global response to this disaster caused climate change”.
“The Secretary General will visit the areas most affected by the flood. He will interact with displaced families and first defendants in field, and oversee the UN humanitarian response work in support of government rescue and relief efforts for millions of affected people,” It added.

He has also actively supported $160 million United Nations “Flash Appeal” to fund the Pakistan Flood Response Plan.
Visit senior UN diplomat also intended to emphasize the importance of stable international support for Pakistan through rehabilitation and reconstruction phase as well as for building stability against future climate shocks.
