Employers in California may soon have post salary for job listings and publicly disclose pay scales by race, nationality and gender.
On Tuesday, the state legislature passed a law requiring all employers to in state post salary ranges for open positions. It would be also companies are required with more over 100 employees report pay scales by gender, race and ethnicity, data that California will then make public.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has until September 30 sign or veto the bill.
“Disclosing the wage range during hiring negotiations has been shown to narrow the pay gap,” said State Sen. Monique Limon, a Democrat from Santa Barbara. in statement for USA TODAY. “I hope the governor sign SB 1162 and take meaningful action to create a fair economy which supports women’s families and people of color.”
