Sir Frederick Barclay avoided prison for failed to pay his ex-wife £100m in divorce after she failed to prove he had access on funds held in complex web of offshore trusts.
A Supreme Court judge ruled that the businessman’s wife of 34 years old Hiroko Barclay failed to prove he was in contempt of court, but found that he had violated the court’s order to pay her £185,000 in legal costs and £60,000 in monthly maintenance.
Sir Frederick, 87 built multibillion pound business out of nothing where the Telegraph came in media group and the Ritz Hotel. He could faced a prison offer if found in contempt of court.
The judge, Sir Jonathan Cohen, said he would consider at the hearing on August 11 what are the consequences should to be of Barclay violations of orders.
