Three people are dead after someone opened fire inside the production room in Western Maryland Thursday afternoon, Gov. Larry Hogan said.
MPs responded to active shooting at Columbia Machine, Inc. on Bikel Road in Smithsburg around 2:30 pm
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said there were “many dead.” Hogan later confirmed on news conference that three people were killed.
The suspect was shot during an altercation with Maryland State Police Trooper, Sheriff office said. The shooter was taken to the hospital, but his condition is currently unknown.
The soldier received a minor injury, authorities said.
Smithsburg in a remote area near the Maryland-Pennsylvania border and a few miles from Hagerstown, Maryland.
