ISLAMABAD: PANAH organized an important workshop on happening of “World Food Safety Day” at Fairyland Resort, Aliabad, Hunza in cooperation with Provincial Nutrition Coordinator, Gilgit-Baltistan Department of Health.
At the seminar Sanaulla Gumman, General Secretary of PANAH, Munawawar Hussain, Food Policy Program Consultant and Provincial Nutrition Coordinator, Department of Health, Gilgit-Baltistan Mohammad Abbas delivered lectures for female teachers on benefits of healthy eating and causes of illness.
The lecture said that World Food Safety Day is held every year. year under the auspices of of PANAH like World. The goal is to draw attention to the dangers. of health hazards posed by food to detect, manage and improve human health.
This was stated by the World Diabetes Federation. in Nov 2021 Pakistan ranks third in in world in terms of diabetes. Over 33 million people live with diabetes in Pakistan, with sharp increase of 14 million in in last only two years.
Consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks increase risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and other chronic diseases.
A comprehensive approach is needed to reduce consumption of sweet drinks. There should be a ban on availability and consumption of sweet drinks in educational institutions so that a healthy society can be formed.
