Appeals of the supervisory authorities of the police for eyewitnesses and footage after Met shocked person dies after river rescue | UK news

Police Supervisory Appeals for witnesses in its investigation into death of human who entered the Thames after being electrocuted by officers.

The police were called to Chelsea Bridge Road. in west London, on Saturday morning after receiving a report that the man was armed with screwdriver and scream.

The man was challenged by the officers on a bridge and a stun gun, but police said this “prevented the officers from safely detaining him.”

He then entered the river before being rescued by the RNLI and taken to the hospital.

Independent office for Police Conduct (IOPC), Police Observer, stated 41-year-old man, who lived locally, was originally given first to help on Lambeth Pier, ambulance staff.

He died in hospital on Saturday evening.

On Monday, the watchdog said it was “attractive”. for witnesses forward as he investigates an interaction between officers of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and a man who died after entering the River Thames from Chelsea Bridge.”

it also urged anyone with footage of any part of incident to come forward.

The IOPC stated that its investigators conducted out CCTV trawl, and captured several mobile shots taken on bridge along with police body-worn video camera captured material.

Officers involved in incident provided their accounts, and the stun gun that was deployed was collected for analysis.

IOPC investigators also supervised forensic medical examination of scene.

His Majesty the Coroner has been informed, and post-mortem will take place in due time.

IOPC Regional Director Sal Naseem said: “Our sympathies with in family of that man who died and everyone else suffered. We have already met with male family explain our role and we will keep them regularly updated as our requests progress.

“We have an independent investigation that is looking into the interaction between the officers and the man. on bridge.

“As long as we have personnel, we would like to turn to people get in touch with us without delay if they saw or recorded any part of of incident, or on bridge, after the man became in water, or at Lambeth Pier when the man was brought there.

“We will also encourage anyone who was on boat near the bridge at about the same time on Saturday morning to contact us.”
