Civil servants furious when Simon Case dodges sanctions over Party | gray report

One of firm predictions before publication of Sue Gray’s report stated that Simon Case, a cabinet member secretary, “would do an honorable deed” and resigned. As it turned out, he didn’t.

Instead, Case and the entire top 10 team seem to have avoided any sanction or even reprimand at all, and it is fair to say that not everyone is happy, especially more junior officials, dozens of who was fined.

unions and former senior Civil servants told the Guardian about the intense anger over such high-ranking officials do nothing to stop drunkenness and sometimes hooliganism. social assembly set out in Grey’s report, no repercussions.

While anger is directed at senior officials in general, this is a particularly difficult position for Case, the UK’s top civil servant, whose move from Buckingham Palace to No. 10 at the age of 41 made his youngest cabinet secretary since 1916 and one of the least experienced.

Case appears just fleetingly in Gray’s report, and was not fined. But there is a feeling that he and others in accusation should provided more of a lead.

Mike Clancy, general secretary of prospectus unionwhich represents more junior officials, said that the culture revealed by Gray showed up “bubble number 10 that was popped senior leadership”. He added: “Under any other direction, Sue Gray’s report should to be cause for reflection for prime minister and senior leaders around them.”

Mark Servotka, general secretary of PKS union was even blunter, saying that “it’s outrageous that these who set culture walks without censure from Sue Gray’s report while junior staff pays price”.

One former leading a civil servant told The Guardian events set out in Gray’s report was very badly reflected on Case, stating that top officials knew what was going on, but “found reasons to justify it when they shouldn’t have.”

“It all feels like exclusivity – they only ever tested with each other, and it was all a little self-justifying. Not one stood back and said: “I know how much you want this event also how hard you have been working, but you have to wait, like other.'”

Absence of sanction against The case was, however, not surprising, they added. “He joined on the thigh with in prime minister. If Simon Case left, it would completely expose Johnson. He shield. How could you take action against him when he was not fined, and not prime minister, who been fined?” Even before the Gray Report appeared, many in Whitehall said Case’s behavior at Partygate is even the need to recuse himself leading request because of Christmas quiz hosted by him office — was unforgivable.

“I can’t imagine the circumstances in my time in public service, where if someone mentioned it against law, we wouldn’t go: “That’s right, let’s not do that” – another former the civil servant said. “Case should immediately quit. Catastrophic failure of in senior civil service is here.

But some feel that the drastic fall in grace would be undeserved. BUT former employee who knew Case by his work at Buckingham Palace they said they watched with horror in the scandals that engulfed Downing Street.

“Simon was considered best and the brightest, really hyped up,” They said. “It’s awful how everything has changed out and i think part of that is just how anything gold that Boris Johnson touches turns to shit.”

Case was born and privately educated in Bristol.
