KARACHI: Federal government offered to cut half of in budget of Higher Education Commission (HEC), it became known on Wednesday.
The newly created federal government proposed cutting in budget of HEC by more how half up to 30 billion rupees for fiscal year 2022–23 compared to previous distribution of 65 billion rupees.
HEC was asked to draw up budget statement in conformity with specified budget for 2022-23 and submit it to the Finance Department director budget wing for entrance.
HEC representatives stated that PTI government It was already minimized HEC budget because of which universities across the country facing severe financial crunch. Therefore, further reduction in in budget financially paralyzes higher education in country like most of universities are unable to generate funding for annual expenses.
After decision, problems of in government-run universities have stepped up and research work was completely stopped. Process of firing teachers recruited on there is a temporary basis also started, the sources said.
Sources said with slice in SEC budgetuniversities were forced to increase fees by 3-4%.
