MAros Shefkovic, Vice President of The European Commission responded to announcement made Liz Truss.
He said the EU was still open to negotiations, but the prospect of Britain’s unilateral actions “raise serious concerns”.
He said in statement: “In announcement UK government, however, to list legislation that would abolish the constitutive elements of Protocol raises serious concerns.
“First, because the Protocol is a solution agreed between the EU and the UK to address challenges due to the UK’s exit from the EU for Island of Ireland, as well as to protect hard-earned profit of peace process.
“Secondly, since the Protocol is international agreement signed by the EU and the UK. Unilateral actions contrary to international agreement is unacceptable.
“Thirdly, since the Withdrawal Agreement and its Protocol are necessary foundation for The Trade and Cooperation Agreement that the EU and the UK have agreed to organize their common relationship after the UK’s withdrawal.”
