Concerns about natural gas persist in in air evacuation in progress for those who live at least a mile and half from the factory. K-96 will remain shut down.
Firefighters on scene of gas plant Teneva fire just outside Haven is left scene with fears another natural gas explosion could occur. Authorities say evacuation could be possible.
HAVEN, Kansas (CAKE) – According to Adam Weishar, Director of Emergency Management for Reno County, around 1:17 p.m. Thursday, several units were sent to Kent Road. for report of gasworks on fire.
When the crews arrived on scene they were met with thick smoke and flames. Crews also bombings were reported.
The fire brigades are still on scene working put out in fire. Crews are expected to be on scene for some hours.
Those within a two mile radius of the plant was evacuated.
Firefighters from Colwich, Mount Hope, Burton, McPherson and Wichita also answered. foam tender also delivered to the scene.
Two people were delivered by EMS with minor injuries, all workers at the plant are taken into account for.
Weishar said the Reno County Commission signed the local disaster statement. allow for public resources in the future in and help with in fire fight.
The gas to the plant was shut off. Weisshar says there is no risk to the public at this time. K-96 will shut down for some hours to allow firefighters delivered water to fire.
