Sajid Javid had no permanent residence for six the years he was a banker

Health secretary Sajid Javid claims tax status without permanent residence for six years when he was a banker, it was reported.

Mr. Javid said, “I lived in United Kingdom for tax goals throughout my public a life. Given the increased public interest in these questions, I want be open about my past tax statuses.

He added: “My career before politics was in international finance. For nearly two decades, I have constantly traveled through world for work”.

He said that after posting in New York he returned to the UK, and “for some of in those years I was homeless for tax purposes, but I have paid all applicable UK taxes on my income, and have always done so.”

Referring to an offshore trust, he said: “Before returning to the UK and entering public life, some of my financial investments were founded in offshore trust.

He said that “it was a perfectly legal arrangement”, adding: “Becoming minister in 2012 I decided to voluntarily destroy this trust, repatriate everything assets to the UK and pay 50% income tax on those assets”.

Mr Javid added: “This approach has deliberately incurred the hardest possible tax burden and offset any accumulated benefits from a previous trust arrangement, but I felt I did the right thing.”

Home Office minister Keith Malthouse defended Javid on Sunday – saying his arrangements are dated back by then he was working overseas before he became an MP.

“He worked overseas he worked in international banking. As far as I understand these [arrangements] were before he was elected – I know hard is to believe some of us we had a life before we elected”.

Mr Malthouse also tried to defend Mr. Sunak by saying that he was “great force for good”. When asked if the Chancellor was now a political “toast”, minister replied, “No, I don’t believe it.”

Opposition parties and activists also called on to the Chancellor to reveal his ties to the British overseas territory after Independent revealed allegations that he was listed as a beneficiary of tax haven trusts.

Labor called on him urgently to clarify whether he helped “shapetax rules through the recent Finance Act of 2022 to benefit wealthy investors with status without permanent residence.

Yvette Cooper, shadow home secretary said there may have been a conflict of interest between Mr. Sunak role both chancellor and his wife of tax status.

“That’s why we don’t know for for example, did the chancellor declare a conflict of interest when he did decisions on policies, there are reports of some policies that do affect people with home status,” she told Sky News.
