UK ‘too slow’ over climate crisis despite strict IPCC report | climate crisis

Great Britain government is an moving too slow to deal with the climate emergency, leading scientists said in commemoration of in latest IPCC report.

This comes after Jacob Rees-Mogg, the Brexit minister said he supports “the exploitation of everyone last cubic inch of gas from the North Sea” on the day of the publication of the report.

Although the report warned that global emissions must peak by 2025 to prevent off the most severe consequences of climate crisis that will require strong and immediate action from all countries, scientists say they concerned Great Britain government drags its feet.

Dr. Jem Woods, Acting Director of Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College, said: “There is a minimum zero agreement between UK net zero strategy and policies and key legislation affecting run infrastructure and investment.

“In particular, the Local Plan 2030, which encouraged new house building, yes made without consideration of consequences for climate. We can also see similar issues with Environmental law.

“New buildings built over in next 10 years will close-in infrastructure investments for decades ahead with significant consequences for Ajay modernization [Gambhir] item about what is not offered heat pumps, not gas boilers.”

Rees-Mogg told LBC radio on Monday: “We need think about using each last cubic inch of gas from the North Sea. we’re not going for net zero tomorrow is 2050 a long year way off”.

In response to Rees-Mogg’s comments by Ajay Gambhir, senior research Research Fellow, Imperial College London Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment warned: “It has been 1013 days since the UK government legalized for net zero … we do not see the translation of it’s in on- ground measures fast enough.”

He added that Russia’s government actions are unlikely to be consistent with its own carbon reduction goals, let alone those set IPCC.

“Utilities are still contacting me about replacing my gas boiler. with but new gas boiler – not mentioned of heat pumps. Will this approach allow 600 000 new installations per year by 2028 hopefully government?

“Electric car grants that were £4,500 a few years ago are now £1,500 and now only for those below 32 thousand pounds sterling, with grants home chargers are also going to be cut.

« governments net zero strategy of autumn 2021 has several good ideas for the development of renewable energy, hydrogen, carbon capture low-carbon heating, transportation and industrial production.

“But basically nothing on behavior changesabout diets and aviation, for example. As well as full implementation of policy by 2024 (as recommended by the Climate Change Committee) seems questionable.”

Campaigners said cabinet ministers did not appear to be taking the IPCC report seriously.

Philip Evans, oil and gas transition campaigner for Greenpeace UK stated: “How the UN describes further investment in fossil fuels as political and economic madness, Brexit minister to want double down.

“This is extremely stupid, because it requires on an average of 28 years to bring new oil and gas fields online. And even then, the extracted oil and gas do not remain in UK, mainly sold off on international markets for highest bidder doing nothing for household bills in Great Britain.

“Now the oil and gas companies are raking in in wartime profits price thorns nonetheless government refuses to bring in contingency tax, which can help alleviate cost-of-life crisis for the most vulnerable.”

Gambhir added: “It’s strange to be supporting industries whose products are becoming increasingly uncompetitive with new green energy sources like solar and wind.

«Oil and gas of the North Sea assets belong private, international companies that sell on global and regional markets to maximize your profits.

“Major oil and gas companies have benefited from huge tax breaks. in recent years, amounting to almost 14 billion pounds in new exploration, production and decommissioning as the North Sea becomes higher cost shrinking, non-competitive source of these fuels.

Ministers have also was divided on in issue of wind power plants. Kwasi Kwarteng, business secretary and Michael Gove leveling up secretary are in favor, but others, including Grant Shapps, transport secretary branded onshore turbines a “thorn in the eye”.

The report, no matter how severe, was watered down after the intervention of Saudi Arabia, according to Climate Home.

Sources said that after the comments of a major oil producer website it refers to carbon capture technology we added. These methods remain unproven on a commercial scale, but may give reprieve for the fossil fuel industry.

Compared to previous projects, references to phasing out coal, oil and gas have been qualified with the word “relentless” and “fossil fuel with carbon capture and storage” was defined as way cut emissions in line with global climate goals.
