Excavations have begun at a farm where police believe remains of a woman who was kidnapped and ransomed 53 years ago may be buried.
Homicide detectives were site research in Hertfordshirewhere one of Muriel McKay’s kidnappers confessed to burying her body.
Since February, officers have been carrying out visits to a farm near Royston, and now work has begun in trying to find answers.
Chief Detective Inspector Mark Cranwell said: “We are very grateful to the landowners. for allowing us carry out this work and kept Muriel family fully informed.
“While two men have been previously convicted of murder, family lived for more than 50 years without knowing where Muriel is remains False.
“At this stage, we know how long dig or what we will find, but that would be a huge relief and sense of closing for all if muriel remains have been discovered.”

First, the police will focus on clearing various area and then use georadar to detect any anomalies under earth.
Miss McKay was kidnapped for ransom from her London home in 1969, brothers Artur and Nizamodin Hossein.
They were wrong for wife of Rupert Murdoch demanded a £1 million ransom. for her return.
After an unsuccessful police operation, the brothers were arrested and convicted. of Muriel murdering her body was never found and her captors did not reveal what happened to her.
However, there are new hopes last year when survivors brother Nizamodin finally told the family lawyer that Muriel had died of a heart attack and that he buried her near the farm.
