Epic Games has publicly admitted that the Impostors mode in Fortnite is inspired by the game Among Us.
The company reports this in a blog post about update 18.2 of Fortnite. “V18.2 adds improvements to Impostors, the mode inspired by Innersloth’s Among Us!”
The Impostors mode launched in Fortnite in August . In the mode there are ten players in a submarine at the same time. There are eight agents and two impostors, where the agents have to figure out who the impostors are and the impostors try to sabotage the submarine and kill other players. As a result, the mode resembles the popular game Among Us.
After launch, several Among Us developers criticized the fact that Epic Games changed the idea behind the game. had used to come up with the new mode. “Gameplay mechanics, okay, they’re not exclusive to one game, but at least would have added different themes or terminology to make it interesting,” said community director Victoria Tran.
