With the redesign of the G- Suite and the renaming to Workspace, Google is introducing a number of new communication and collaboration functions. Workspace combines the services Chat, Docs, Rooms and Meet.
Now Google has published Spaces. The tool should be the central place for collaboration and be integrated into tools such as calendar, drive, docs, sheets, slides, meet and tasks. This allows teams to manage various documents, tasks and information from one central location.
New features for spaces
More features will follow in the coming months. The navigation in different communication channels should be centralized and optimized.
Among other things, using threads, spaces should facilitate collaboration. (Photo: Google)
Spaces should also have threads, options for sharing with colleagues, a search function and security and administration functions.
Better planning of meetings
The collaboration in spaces should reduce the number of meetings through asynchronous work and communication. At the same time, Google wants to improve Meetings and make planning easier.
Users of the Google calendar can specify their place of work for each working day, so that the meeting point for meetings can be selected appropriately in advance.
Google Meet calling for spontaneous meetings
In addition to such scheduled meetings, there is now Google Meet Calling, a service for spontaneous calls. The feature should be able to be started from different locations, such as chats or spaces. For now, however, it is only available from the Gmail app.
Companion mode for hybrid meetings
Google has developed the Companion Mode for hybrid meetings. Those who sit together in the same room as analog can also use their own device to join the meeting, but use the shared audio and video playback in the room. This can be useful for viewing the screen up close or for sharing chat.
Google is also working on live translations from English to German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. The subtitles should be available by the end of the year.
New meeting hardware
Google is expanding its range of meeting hardware to include the Google Meet Series One Desk 27 and Series One Board 65. Google has also announced new collaborations with third-party providers. Google Meet is integrated into the Rally Bar from Logitech and the Rayz Rally Pro from Appcessori.
“Bridging the gaps in the emerging hybrid world of work will be a combination of technology, workplace culture and a new use of physical spaces “, Explains Google’s product manager Sanaz Ahari according to the notification.
