New digital business models in the field We want to build urban mobility – that’s what the technology offshoot Porsche Digital from the Zuffenhausen-based car manufacturer tells us. In a first step, an “innovative, sporty e-bike” was developed for this purpose. For this luxury pedelec, Porsche has brought the bicycle manufacturer Storck as well as the component manufacturers Greyp and Fazua on board. The electric bicycle is to be marketed under the joint new brand Cyklær. Cyklær is also called the bike itself.

The first pictures show a rather classic gravel bike without any visual abnormalities. The values are more on the inside. The partners did not make any compromises when it came to the choice of components. The frame, for example, is made of carbon and is therefore particularly light. The brakes and gears come from the US component manufacturer SRAM. Fazua supplies the electric drive. The solid component technology of the pedelec is complemented by a quite unusual digital platform.
Digital services make the difference

The cooperation partners have actually come up with a lot. You can use a reversing camera via the display. Porsche calls this a digital rearview mirror and sees it as a function that increases road safety. In addition, functions such as navigation, video recording and location services are available. The smartphone attachment to the handlebar also functions as an inductive charging pad according to the Qi standard.

The Cyklær comes with a digital basic equipment and should be kept up to date via OTA updates (over-the-air, i.e. via radio), but also equipped with additional features can be. The users should help determine which new digital services are to be developed in the future.

The price matches the claim
The Cyklær can already be bought in the specially set up online shop. You can order it in its pure form as a gravel bike for around 7,000 euros in three muted color variants. But then you have no lighting, no luggage rack and no mudguards. With these accessories, the pedelec costs around 7,300 euros. For the same price you get the E-Urban model, which also has city tires and a corresponding handlebar instead of the off-road tires.

All variants are to be delivered from January 2022. The delivery region is limited to Germany and Austria. The official presentation of the Cyklær pedelecs will take place at the Eurobike trade fair in Friedrichshafen from September 1st to 4th, 2021.
