Hungarian innovations help shipping

The mechanical and navigation system and other tools developed by the consortium of Balaton Dock Kft. And Előny Kft. Are already of great use in making the moorings safer in the summer Balaton traffic.

The consortium won HUF 364 million in EU funding, for which it had to provide HUF 231 million in own funds, the managing director of Balaton Dock Kft. informed MTI.

Márton Deák said that there are few berths on Lake Balaton, but at the same time there are more and more sailors with little routine. For this reason, it was important to make the mooring of ships safer and to save space in the ports.

He explained that instead of placing tail poles, to the side. These pontoons are based on the principles of flexible energy dissipation and anchorage to ensure damage-free access to berths, even in the event of faulty steering or crosswinds. As soon as a ship reaches its designated location, the newly developed devices will be practically introduced to its parking space, he explained. The berths can be adjusted to the width of each vessel, which, in addition to being easier and safer, allows more vessels to be accommodated in ports, he added.

Another development in the consortium a system that works similarly to the reversing radar of wagons, showing graphically how a ship can get in and out of a given location. The consortium received support from the Ginop project for the development of a telemetry and IT system – software and hardware – based on a mechanical and stationary transponder to assist port docking, which started in 2017 and ended last autumn.

As part of the project, the developments were tested and put into operation in the Fenyves Yacht Club in Balatonfenyves, operated and owned by Balaton Dock Kft., And in the Alsóörs Marina in Alsóörs

– they are often crowded, operating almost full house in high season, the executive said. He added that there was already an interest in self-designed, licensed and manufactured devices, as well as a navigation and IT system to assist in mooring. They are mostly interested in the newly built and under renovation port projects in Lake Balaton and other Hungarians, and mainly in the solution of the consortium on a special branch point.

Márton Deák highlighted capable hardware and IT system has not been available in the market so far. The system does not take control from the pilot, it only helps with maneuvering, he remarked

The project employed 30 people for a longer or shorter period of time.
