The video portal is spending a lot of money on its Tiktok function “shorts” push. In addition, the two players scramble for live streams.

Youtube released $ 100 million at the beginning of the year to attract influencers. The calculation is simple: Anyone who brings interesting content (for money) to the platform automatically attracts a large number of users. There is another special feature of YouTube’s Geldregen: it should only be enjoyed by those creators who use the new “shorts” format. The short videos must run exclusively on the platform and meet other conditions. Youtube published the exact details today and announced the start of the money machine in ten countries, Germany is not among them. Incidentally, Tiktok set up a 200 million fund for the same purpose last year. The video market leader is also chasing after the platform of Chinese origin in another point: Live streaming.

Youtube opens up a bouquet of monetization opportunities

After Shorts came out of the beta phase and is available in around 100 countries, Youtube has now announced the payout criteria. Accordingly, the platform operator invites thousands of eligible creators to participate in the program. In other words: it increases the chances of participating in the party if you participate in the YouTube partner program. Interested parties can, however, apply for participation without membership. Youtube is offering between 100 and 10,000 dollars – depending on the reach of the short videos. In addition to the number of viewers, other engagement figures should also be included in the calculation. The shorts must of course comply with the community and copyright guidelines and must not contain a watermark or logo of a competing platform. The group announces that it will allow monthly payments to be made to provide an incentive to keep producing shorts. He also says that content providers have nine additional ways to make money in their portfolio. And another announcement makes you sit up and take notice: The program is only intended to be the first step in monetizing shorts.

Livestream race has started

After Tiktok updated its live streaming tools and promised to deliver an improved experience, Youtube is now following suit. The options for live streams will be improved and a teaser function will now be offered to promote the events, according to the accompanying video. The trailers are intended to attract more people to the streams, which observers say are increasingly used as a source of monetization. This is not surprising either: after all, the audience is real and the communication is authentic. The teaser videos work like this: You upload a 30- to 60-second clip to your own channel and can then select it as a preview video for the live stream. On YouTube, only influencers with at least 1000 followers who have not yet got into debt are allowed to host live streams. Another new feature of the YouTube streams is the chat survey, which, however, is only displayed in the current session. This function is already known from other platforms.
