In Australia they are already stock market stars, now Sezzle and Afterpay also want to gain a foothold in Germany. Sezzle already has staff, Afterpay is still looking.

The US company Sezzle starts with a well-known management team from German fintech Scene in Berlin already through. Work has been going on on the product in secret for months. Just a few days ago Sezzle made his ambitions public with a photo of the Berlin TV tower.

Sezzle already there, Afterpay is looking for a Germany boss

In Berlin, a total of 22 positions are advertised at Sezzle. With Myprotein and the cannabis brand Vaay, the first shop customers have already been found and the list of dealers is expected to grow massively in the coming months. Sezzle Germany GmbH already exists.

The Australian company Afterpay is not that far yet. So far, the market entry is still in prospect. A job advertisement is still looking for a Germany boss. Finance Forward has learned that a business leader is preferred. If that were found, things could go fast, because the company has a Spanish license that it can transfer to other EU countries. Afterpay has been active in Spain, Italy and France for several months.

Klarna clearly in front

The Swedish competitor Klarna will certainly not look at the long-term narrowing market with complete serenity, but can still remain quite relaxed. His key financial data are much stronger. While Klarna has around 900 million US dollars in sales and a market valuation of 38 billion dollars, Afterpay with 300 million dollars in sales and 129 billion dollars in value is significantly lower. Sezzle is still waiting to achieve unicorn status and made around 50 million dollars in sales last year.

With the US company Affirm, the German Ratepay, the Italian Scalapay, further potent players are announced and then there is also PayPal. Industry insiders are more relaxed about the increasing competition. The market is big enough for many, they think.
