Remember Article

Elon Musk has announced it again and again, now it is there: the FSD subscription. Tesla presents various pricing models for this – the monthly price drops if the customer has already invested in the autonomous driving system.

The “Full Self-Driving” subscription package costs 199 euros per month in the USA for all models with the “Basic Autopilot” equipment. These are practically all of the newer Tesla types. This is based on upgrade information from the vehicle manufacturer, reports Electrek. $ 99 / month is the fee for those who previously purchased the Enhanced Autopilot package. The package discontinued in the USA already received functions that later migrated to the FSD offer. Anyone who owns a Tesla without any autopilot software (version HW 3.0) can also take out the subscription, but has to pay $ 1,500 for a computer upgrade. The “Full Self-Driving” offer, which is marketed in Germany under the more realistic name “Full Potential for Autonomous Driving”, was previously bookable for the vehicle with a one-off payment of $ 10,000. In this country there is no subscription offer yet, the “full potential” still costs 7,500 euros one-time.

Subscription often announced, now reality

Elon Musk had already announced the subscription change for the end of 2020. Other statements were “definitely in the second quarter of 2021” and it was “a sure thing” in May. He later linked the introduction date with the launch of version 9 of the beta of “Full Self-Driving”. The update came out this week. Now, as announced, the group has changed the payment method to monthly amounts. Musk had announced often enough that the software would soon enable autonomous driving (level 5). In the end, however, it is still partially automated driving (autonomous driving level 2). Some buyers were disappointed to have added a product to the car that never lived up to the high expectations and announcements. That could be an additional reason to introduce the subscription. So you can try out the driving system and cancel it if it does not meet expectations. Musk rowed back last and wrote on Twitter that it was more difficult to realize than expected.

The assistant -Package includes navigating with the “autopilot”, automatic lane change, car parking, calling, the “fully moving computer” as well as traffic light and stop sign control. In the end, Tesla is working on teaching the system to drive at level 5, and buyers of the package are counting on the electric car pioneer to succeed. Observers estimate that the price could go up if version 9 of FSD is made available to a wider audience.
