Taliban: We will present a written peace plan to the Afghan government

A spokesman for the Taliban announced that the movement intends to submit a written peace proposal to the Afghan government next month at the latest.

This statement comes at a time when the Taliban is making gains on the ground, taking advantage of the vacuum created by Withdrawal of foreign forces, according to Reuters.

Bagram base evacuated

Hundreds of Afghan security personnel have fled to Tajikistan after the Taliban advance since the United States evacuated its main base in Afghanistan As part of a plan to withdraw all foreign forces by 9/11.

The Bagram base has been the center of US and NATO forces for nearly 20 years in Afghanistan.

Although the transfer of control of the Afghan army’s Bagram air base gave impetus to the Taliban’s campaign to seize new areas, Taliban leaders resumed long-stalled talks with Afghan government envoys in the Qatari capital, Doha, last week, according to Reuters.

the peace talks”

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Reuters today, Monday: “The peace talks and the peace process will be accelerated in the coming days, and it is expected to enter an important stage…it will be related to peace plans, of course.

He also added that “it will probably take a month to reach that stage when the two sides exchange their written peace plan.” He noted that the latest round of talks has taken a critical juncture.

It is noteworthy that the escalation of fighting and the flight of thousands of Afghan security forces personnel have cast serious doubts about the US-backed peace negotiations that began last year under the former president’s administration Donald Trump.
