Shopify gets into affiliate marketing. (Image: Shopify)
Shopify starts a new affiliate service. As The Information has learned from insiders, publishers should receive commissions for links to retailers from the Shopify network. Buzzfeed is therefore one of the first partners.
Alternative to e-commerce giants
Shopify wants to offer publishers and retailers interested in affiliate marketing an alternative to Amazon or Walmart. In addition to Buzzfeed, other media companies are also said to be in discussion with Shopify, including Complex Networks and Vox Media.
Attendees can include links to Shopify products in their Integrate pages. In addition, publishers should be able to create their own online shop in which customers can buy products from Shopify retailers without leaving the original website.
Direct contact between publishers and dealers
How high the commission is for purchases via affiliate links is not known. According to The Information, publishers should negotiate the commissions directly with the retailers.
In October, Shopify had already signed an advertising partnership with Tiktok, through which retailers advertise Tiktok can switch.
